10 Questions To Ask When Buying A Used Car.

When you are buying a used car from somewhere you always have to be a bit more wary than if you were buying a brand new one.

You should make sure you know everything, all the ins and outs of the car you are wanting to buy before making any decisions.

Here are 10 question you should always ask!

1 – Can I See The Car?

Most people will ask to see the car without even thinking, but sometimes you just don’t think of the obvious questions. If you are buying online, you should always make sure you see it so you can inspect the car before buying it. Never buy a car before seeing it first.

2 – Can It Be Sold Legally?

Most people wouldn’t even try and sell an illegal car, especially online but you just never know so always make sure that it can be legally sold. If it can’t, there are many reasons such as; it’s been written off, it’s got an outstanding finance or many other things. If you buy a illegal car with or without knowing you are then responsible for it. This means you could get a fine, ban or have your car repossessed.

3 – Why Are You Selling It?

They could just genuinely be getting rid of it, they might want a newer, up to date car. If you ask them questions and put them on the spot then they might not think of what they are saying and let something slip that isn’t in the description.

4 – Can I See The Paperwork?

Any car should always come with documents, a used car should come with the certificates and a full service history.

Seeing it’s full service history you can see if there are any reoccurring problems with it than might cost more than it’s worth to buy it.

5 – How Many Owners Has It Has?

The more owners that a car has had normally means that it’s worth less, no matter what car you are looking at. Just to check, ask them because if the car has had loads of owners and you are being charged a lot for that many owners you can then question it.

6 – Has It Been In An Accident?

If it has been, there could be some internal damage that wasn’t listed in the description so you might want to check it all out to make sure you can’t see anything wrong with it. It could also be illegal to sell if it’s been written off/in an accident as stated above.

7 – Are You The Registered Keeper?

If the seller isn’t the registered keeper, they might not be able to answer all the questions that you have for them about the car. They could just be selling it for a friend or family member but always take this with caution.

8 – Is The Car As Described?

If they say yes, you should always just double check everything to make sure it 100% is as described. Make sure it has everything and looks like the photo does. Take the listing with you so you can go through it step by step and make sure it is all the same. If they say it’s not then you know something is different and they should tell you there and then what’s different.

9 – Can I Drive it Home?

If they say yes, this should mean it is road worthy, has a MOT and no known problems to the seller. If they say you can’t then this is a big indication that it isn’t sold as described and has some kind of problem with it.

10 – Can I Test Drive It?

The best way to find out if you want the car and that it’s the right one for you is to test drive it!

If they say no then this is also a big sign something isn’t as described with the car they’re selling to you.
