How To Maintain Your Alloys

Having nice, shiny alloys will enhance and give your car a nice classy look to it, so keep them clean and shiny. If you have muddy, dirty alloys people will assume your whole car is dirty and not being looked after. Having clean alloys will also bump up the value of your car so make sure they aren’t scuffed or dirty.

To clean your alloys you will need;

Water and a hose, soft rags and washing mitts, a wheel cleaning brush and some large cotton swabs.

The water and hose are to get rid of the dirt. The soft rags and washing mitts are to apply to soap and clean the alloys. The wheel cleaning brush and large cotton swabs are to get to the small bits you need to clean that the rags can’t get to.

Cleaning alloy wheels.

The best time to do it is on a nice, warm day, but keep your car out of direct sunlight otherwise it will most likely leave streaks which isn’t very nice looking.

The first thing to do is clean the wheels with water only and then use the hose pipe to get inside of the spokes to give them a good clean too. After doing this, rinse off the dirt you have gotten off/out as clean as you possibly can as this will help you to avoid scratching the surface of the wheel.

When you have done that, soak one of your rags with some soapy water and give your wheel a good scrub, make sure you go this gently though as you don’t want to scratch the wheel. When done, rinse this off the soap with some plain water.

After the soap and water, get out your wheel cleaning brush and clean the inside of the spokes to get the dirt out of there where the rags cant reach and then rinse off.

Last of all with the cleaning, get your large cotton swabs out to help you wipe off the rest of the dirt which is left on the wheels. Then dry them with a clean towel or cloth then you’re done cleaning your wheels.

Waxing and polishing.

Next is to wax or polish your wheels, depending in what the finish of your wheel is depend on what you need to use.

If your wheel has a chrome finish, use chrome polish. If your wheels are made from aluminum you should use the aluminum polish. Having anodized wheels mean you only need to apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly. If you have wheels that have been painted or coated you need to get high quality automotive wax to protect the finish of your wheel.

So to do this, you have to apply with wax or polish using a clean rag and then buff your wheel until it is shining.
